The Budafest Hostess team at the airport got us on shuttles to the hotel quickly and a very kind Receptionist at The Intercontinental checked me in early so I was in bed and snoring away within an hour of landing. Which is just what I needed after a fabulous Sunday night of dancing at NYSF.
First night in Budapest after treating myself to a ginormous Intercontinental Room Service burger which was delicious I ventured out to collect wine in preparation for Caroline's arrival. No 2017 celebration could complete without bubbles! and who knew that Hungary produced great wine.
We started the week with local bubbles and drank only Hungarian wine and beer the rest of the week. It wasn't a boozy week but we definitely got a chance to sample a nice range and I am now a huge fan. Grand buildings, interesting nooks and crannies, great food, amazing wine. Budapest is definitely a city I'll be back to explore. Sadly we didn't make it to the thermal baths but they will be top of my list for my next trip.
Monday was a rest day, Tuesday gossip, eating and drinking and preparation. Come Wednesday we were well rested and prepared for the Focus Workshops. The workshops led by Maxence & Virginie, Tatiana & Jordan and Brandi were without exception the best 10 hours of classes that I've ever attended. The classes were well paced for learning, had consistent themes running across all sessions and teachers, progressed topics and knowledge throughout the classes and if that wasn't enough every single class was interactive. Great questions were asked and answered with great detail and clarity. Two days of learning, with great teachers and classmates all keen to put that learning into practice, what a great start to the year.
Having dedicated two days to learning the second half of the week was set aside to enjoy, practice and dance till my feet could dance no more. Budafest did not disappoint. Beautiful huge dancefloor in the Ballroom that was lovely to dance on and there was even dancing in the hallway. People warned me that this was a huge event and that it would be a bit overwhelming however the lovely leaders and followers I met from USA, Canada, Norway, Sweden, Germany, Hungary and even the ones from Scotland (love you both) made it feel like a local social, friendly and welcoming. I love this dance!
Thank you to the organisers Adam, Rita, Gabor and their team for a superb event. It was a great way to start 2017 and I look forward to attending more Hungarian events and hopefully Budafest next year too.
