Adam, Rita and Gabor have the Budafest communications totally sewn up and with their great directions we were out of the airport and on to the 100E local bus into the centre of town. 10mins of walking and we're happily in the hotel foyer, I unfortunately have 30 mins to wait till check-in for the Airbnb, there are worse hotels to have to wait in. The Budapest Intercontinental has the most wonderfully, comfy sofas and a relaxing atmosphere. It's a great hotel to visit anytime you're in Budapest.
AirBnb check-in. Tunde does a whistle stop tour, instructions for everything and by 2.07 she's gone and I have the cute apartment to myself. I've only just recently started to think I could live in a studio apartment but this experience has further reinforced how comfortable they can be and truthfully I was a little sad when woke up to the boat this morning. (It's amazing how quickly you get used to central heating!)
Since Jo Hows has introduced me to city bus tours I am a total convert. A whistlestop tour of the town, posh voice telling you all the historical and social highlights with the mandatory cheesy comments. Two hours sat on the Big Red Bus I'd seen all the sights of Budapest, got a little familiar with the geography and possibly a little power nap between stops 9 & 12 because they are a little hazy in my memory. Oopsie.
Wednesday was the start of the event proper for me. Starting the day with auditions for Focus Workshops, a necessary and required evil they can do wonders or the very opposite for one's dancing ego. It is always therefore important to ask yourself "Will I learn in this class"... and if FYI the answer is no then you need to go and have a quite word with yourself. From beginning to end the Focus Workshops were simply fantastic. I am a note taker, it's the only way I remember, learn, process, apply, revisit, repeat until I've got almost the hang of something and I have pages and pages and pages of notes. Great content to reflect on, implement and keep practicing. Thank goodness for five evening of Budafest social to practice my new learnings.
I had all the good intentions in the world for attending workshops during the event proper but my brain was so full from two days of Focus Workshops and body tired from dancing I didn't manage even one. Shame on me, next year I will do better!
